113th AUA Annual Meeting – Lisbon, Portugal

Dear Friends and Colleagues:
I invite you to join us in the historical city of Lisbon, Portugal for the 113th Annual Meeting of the New York Section of the AUA to be held September 6-12, 2015. Lisbon is a beautiful capital city, situated over seven hills overlooking the Tagus River. Its hilly topography is similar to San Francisco, makes for beautiful vistas of the city and surrounding water. Lisbon has a fascinating history. It was occupied by the Moors for several centuries and much of the architectural style and culture is derived from that time. The Christian Crusaders under the command of Alfonso I captured the city in 1147 and drove the Moors out. In the 15 and 16th century, Portugal was known as the country of explorers. Henry the Navigator and Vasco DaGama developed the spice trade to India. Lisbon was the center of a great empire during this time and many of the monuments and historical sites are dedicated to this period…
