Introduction to EMPIRE

Freedom Tower East River

Educational Multi-institutional Program for Instructing REsidents

Dear Residents, Members of the New York Section, and other colleagues,

As the COVID-19 crisis has limited our ability to perform surgeries, see patients, and engage in learning opportunities, we set out to develop a collaborative lecture series with the New York urology faculty and alumni of our programs. Despite the challenges of living in the epicenter of this pandemic, we are resilient and remain committed to resident education. This is how the Educational Multi-Institutional Program for Instructing REsidents (EMPIRE) urology lecture series was born.

We hope residents can take advantage of the time off duty to learn and gain different perspectives from faculty at all of our institutions.  We also hope that this series will lead to increased collaboration between all the great New York Section institutions.

Our goal is to host 2 one-hour lectures delivered between 7:00 am EST and 9:00 am EST on all weekdays during the crisis.  The focus is on resident education and we will cover a variety of topics from the AUA Core Curriculum.

EMPIRE will be broadcast on Zoom to all New York Section programs and anyone else who is interested in joining.  Please see the schedule and meeting details on the following page. Recordings of prior sessions will be available in the “presentations & videos” archive, and are a great resource for In-Service Exam and Board prep.

We hope this communication finds you well and that you stay safe during these tumultuous times.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our organizing team.
